Hunting in Spain

Hunting in Spain has a long, colourful, and traditional history.  Enjoyed in a more formal setting by the highest echelons of society, including General Franco and more recently King Juan Carlos, hunting, or partridge shooting  also has a loyal following amongst local communities; with walked up shooting for partridges, rabbits and hares, indeed if you visit a Spanish restaurant, game is almost always on the menu – delicious.

Hunting or stalking for larger animals, wild boar, red and roe deer, and of course the Spanish Ibex also has a very strong following, with the epitome of hunting in Spain the 'Monteria', or driven big game hunt, a very popular sport.

Hunting in Spain or partridge shooting is both formal yet informal at the same time.  As with any shooting sport there are rules and conventions which must be adhered to so that the quarry is presented in the most sporting way possible and that hunters carry out their sport in a safe way.  A sloppy organisation makes for a sloppy attitude amongst hunting staff and guns alike and this can lead to dangerous practices.  With firm organisation it is possible to be very relaxed and enjoy Spanish hunting at its very best.  There is a real attraction about shooting in the glorious Spanish sunshine, particularly for these hunters who live in cold northern climates.  There is a romance to Spain which touches everything, from the fabulous food and wine to the beautiful Perdix Roja which will delight even the most seasoned hunter.  Spanish people love putting on a good show and really understand about service.  David & Bowring’s hunting trips can be made as ‘all inclusive’ as you like so there is no need to change any currency into Euros if you prefer tips to be handled for you.  We arrange for all our hunters to be collected from Madrid airport and we always host groups which we have sold.  In this way we can be sure that you have a fantastic hunting trip and return year after year to the hills and plains of la Mancha.
